Brit Hensel is an Oklahoma-based director and award-winning filmmaker. Brit’s films have been
screened nationally and abroad, including Sundance, imagineNATIVE, Hot Docs and Full Frame. A citizen of Cherokee Nation, her work largely explores the environment, languages, the experiences of Indigenous women, and her people’s connection to land in Oklahoma (former Indian Territory) and her ancestral homelands of North Carolina (Qualla Boundary). In 2022 her short film, ᎤᏕᏲᏅ (What They’ve Been Taught) was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival, a nominee for Best Short Documentary at the 38th IDA Documentary Awards, and selected as one of the inaugural films for the launch of the L.A. Times Op-Docs. She worked on the Emmy-nominated FX series, Reservation Dogs in the camera department as the 2nd AC for the show's run. Brit’s latest film, Thin Places will premiere in 2025.
