2026 NEXT DOC FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION

NeXt Doc is a year-long national fellowship that brings together emerging non-fiction storytellers ages 21-25 from diverse backgrounds with award-winning filmmakers to learn, share, and build their skills. Opening with a week-long in-person retreat at Galusha Hill Farm Lodge, a 600-acre artist retreat and farm in Topsham, Vermont, NeXt Doc fellows are invited not only to explore and challenge their understanding of the turbulent history, frameworks, and practices of documentary, but also to envision new ones! Throughout the year, fellows are presented with numerous opportunities to expand their networks and amplify their voices, while forming deep relationships and fostering community amongst their cohort. Year-round programming includes peer-to-peer screenings, masterclasses, skill-sharing workshops, mentorship, and numerous opportunities to explore project development, narrative structure, treatment writing, budgeting, documentary history, and critical explorations of core values for equitable, ethical, and accountable non-fiction filmmaking.

The Deadline to Apply is Friday, March 6th, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST

NeXt Doc is intended to be accessible to all eligible non-fiction filmmakers, regardless of their financial status. There is no cost to apply, and selected fellows will attend the opening convening free of charge with all travel, food, and housing costs fully covered.
